November 7-11
- Write a short story about a character who gets stuck in "The Doldrums" (figuratively) and eventually finds a way out. You may base this off of an experience in your own life, but you must write it in 3rd person and give your character a name besides your own.
- A 3.0 level narrative should include strong examples of description and reflection, be well thought-out and organized, flow logically, and give just the right amount of detail so that the reader understands your story (but does not get unnecessary information).
- You must show evidence of ALL steps of the writing process:
- (1) Pre-writing
- (2) Drafting
- (3) Revising
- (4) Editing
- (5) Publishing (Publishing, in this instance, will just require you to turn in your story on Google Classroom or on paper.)
- (1) Pre-writing
November 1-4
- Revise your personal narrative.
- Have a classmate or parent edit your work, check the "Peer Editing Checklist", & sign off on your revisions.
October 24-27

- Complete Narrative Writing Description Activity on Google Classroom or here (Narrative Writing 2.0)
- Rewrite the boring narrative ("I woke up at 6 a.m."). Turn it into an exciting story that "shows" the experience to the reader, rather than "telling" about it.
- Use the other story on the page (about the plane crash) as an example of "telling" vs. "showing."
October 10-14

- Submit a book review for the CMS Reader's Review website using the Google Form (Themes & Central Ideas 3.0)

- Read a short story or picture book & determine the Theme (Themes & Central Ideas 2.0)
- Write an objective summary, including the theme & supporting details (Themes & Central Ideas 3.0)
