Shadow of the Mark
By: Leigh Fallon 4 Stars Genre: Fiction, Science-Fiction, Fantasy Jazmin C. 8th Grade " Shadow of the Mark " by Leigh Fallon has a basic theme, but its unique to the story. The author left you in her earlier book on the fact that the two main characters, Megan and Adam, can not keep seeing each other because of the history of those before them, but in the new book this is not their only problem. The elements are getting strong and are making the characters drawn to each other in harsh ways. For instance, Megan begins feeling affections Adam's brother( Rian ) because their elements want to be close. This becomes a side problem when Megan finds out she is a Cluain and can take the elements away from the DeRises. Megan goes through problem after problem and is still experiencing problems, she states at the end of the book " I was going to do everything in my power to make the circle come full. This time, the Order would lose. The marked line will end with me. ". The theme; persevere with problems is supported constantly throughout the book. I enjoyed reading this book, it was full of adventure and the author did a good job at making the story well detailed. If you like to be kept on your toes this book is for you. Its suspenseful, romantic, well written and just jammed packed with activity. I would give it five stars but if you miss a little bit you're lost.

The Unwanteds: Book One
By: Lisa McMann 4 Stars Genre: Fantasy Carson Whittemire 8th Grade In my book "The Unwanteds" it is expressed that creativity shows strength and intelligence. This is shown through a character name Alex who, at 13 years old, was sent to be killed; because in the town of Quill, that later is found to be an island, you can't be creative in any way. Which is what Alex did, Alex thinking he was about to die, finds himself on an island called Artime where creativity is expressed and the source to life on Artime. Toward the end a war occurs between Artime and Quill, which end with Quill being defeated and peach being settled between the two lands. In conclusion The Unwanteds is a book that creativity will be shown through and will allow your imagination free. I like fantasy, I am a creative person, and overall it was a good book, and I am ready for the next book Rangers Apprentice
By: John Flanagan 4 Stars Genre: Fiction 8th Grade Halt and Will had been trailing the Wargals for three days. The four heavy-bodied and brutish creatures, foot soldiers of the evil warlord Morgarath, had been sighted passing through Redmont Fief, heading north. Once word reached the Ranger, he had set out to intercept them, accompanied by his young apprentice. I liked this book because of the adventure and action this book portrays. This is why I love the whole series. The Wild Robot

By: John Flanagan 4 Stars Genre: Fiction, Realistic Fiction Robert 8th Grade Now, in the wake of Araluen's uneasy truce with the raiding Skandians leader, Erak, has been captured by a desert tribe. The "Rangers" along with a small party of warriors, are sent to free him. But the desert is like nothing else these warriors have faced before. Strangers in the land, they are brutalized by sandstorms, beated by unrelenting heat tricked by a tribe that plays by its own rules, and surprisingly befriended by another. But one thing remains, the way one fights for a friend. I rated this book four stars because of the way it entertains. This is a book easy to read, has action and thrills. I would have gave it five stars if it was shorter, but five stars is not easily earned.I would recommend this to people that like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or any other related books. |
